Sodium butyrate is sodium salt of butyric acid, butyric acid is a short chain fatty acid and have multiple beneficial effects on intestinal function:
● It is direct energy source of enterocyte, could promote intestinal cell proliferation and repairs damaged epithelial cells, keep intestinal mucosa integrity.
● It promotes the secretion of digestive enzyme in gastrointestinal tract and improves the digestion of nutrients.
● It could increases the intestinal villus height, improve intestinal morphology and promote absorption of nutrients.
● As substitute of antibiotics, it could inhibit the growth of pathogenic microorganism, and increase beneficial bacteria.
